MERRY HILL — After being embarrassed in Terra Ceia last week, Lawrence responded with a 59-47 victory over the Knights on Thursday.

Entering the contest, Terra Ceia was in the midst of a nine-game win streak, it’s last loss coming at the hands of the Northside Panthers in December at the Holiday Tournament. Terra Ceia had beaten its last seven opponents by double figures, while averaging 60 points per game this season, a Tarheel Independent Conference best.

A rare off night from the Knights shooters resulted in a competitive first half. Tyler Hendrix, who came in averaging close to 20 points per game, kept his team in it early by shooting a high percentage from the field and rebounding consistently. After an even first quarter, Lawrence’s Nicholas Horton, Nathaniel Horton and Jarrett Harrell began to heat up, leading to a slim 24-22 lead at the half.

The Knights powered back in the third quarter, however, outscoring Lawrence 18-15, but would struggle down the stretch.

As the Warriors’ bigs remained consistent, Terra Ceia struggled to hit shots through the final eight minutes. Lawrence limited the Knights to just seven points and came through with a double-digit victory, keeping its conference standing alive.

For Terra Ceia, sophomore Tyler Hendrix finished with a game-high 25 points and 11 rebounds, while junior Ben Hubers notched nine points on 3-for-6 shooting from behind the arch. Nathaniel Horton led the Warriors with 14 points.

The loss drops the Knights to a 19-3 record and moves Lawrence back into a tie for first place in the TIC.

Terra Ceia will face Ridgecroft in Ahoskie on Tuesday.
