STILL STANDING: In its 66th year, Thomson TV Company and Radio Shack, an integrated business, has continued to serve the community with the best products and services in electronics. But recently, Radio Shack’s corporate offices released news that the franchise is currently filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. However, this news will not affect Thomson TV Company, says Chris Norris, owner and operator.

Thomson TV Company and Radio Shack, an integrated business, will not be affected by recent news that Radio Shack’s corporate franchise is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Owner Chris Norris said Radio Shack will close over 2,000 stores nationwide and will go up for auction. Though it is not set in stone that Norris’ business will lose the Radio Shack name, his business will be unaffected, he said.

“We are a franchised store so if, for some reason, after the auction, Radio Shack no longer exists, we’ll still continue our business under the Thomson TV name, stocking the same products and services,” Norris said. “If that does happen, we would drop the dealership name.”

In 1974, Thomson TV Company became a fully functional, franchised Radio Shack, completing the circle, so to speak, regarding the electronics business, Norris said. Having been at its current location on 15th Street since 1999, the full-service electronics shop offers installations for car stereo systems, home theater, televisions and camera systems for homes and businesses, sales and installation of Dish Network and Direct TV and a variety of electronics.

Last year, talk of the possibility of Radio Shack closing based on corporate news led many customers to ask Norris if his business would be affected. That same question has arisen since the most recent news of it filing for bankruptcy, but Norris assures his customers that Thomson TV, in its 66th year, is here to stay, he said.

“We just reassure the public that we’re good, and we’re going to continue on and continue to serve the people of Washington,” Norris said. “We’re here to stay. I feel like even if Radio Shack goes away as a whole, we will be able to continue on with the Thomson name and remain competitive.”

Upon the release of the news, Norris posted on Thomson TV’s Facebook page, saying “that although the Radio Shack company has filed for bankruptcy, your local Thomson TV Company and Radio Shack is still in business as usual, and you can still put your trust in us. My team and I look forward to helping you will all of your electronics needs.”

Thomson TV Company and Radio Shack is located at 2063 W. 15th St., Washington.
