A winter storm warning is in effect for Beaufort and surrounding counties.
According to the National Weather Service, the area can expect between 1 and 3 inches of additional snow tonight into Thursday morning.
A winter storm warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous.
An area of low pressure will form in the central Gulf of Mexico this afternoon and move along the southeast coast tonight. This low will produce another winter weather event with possible significant impacts for most of eastern North Carolina. Main accumulations are expected tonight, but a lingering threat of frozen or freezing precipitation will continue Thursday morning.
NWS warns residents to only travel in an emergency, due to road conditions. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Never use a generator indoors. Gas grills...generators...and camp stoves create deadly carbon monoxide fumes that will build up when used in your home.
