CHOCOWINITY — Chocowinity Primary School will continue its popular “Pizza Bingo” series of fundraising events with games set for Thursday evening in the school gym.
Bingo games will be played from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Prizes are donated by local businesses and include toys, jewelry, gym visits and season tickets to a theme park of the winner’s choice, according to CPS Principal Alicia Vosburgh.
“This is a community event … it’s a really fun night,” Vosburgh said. “And it’s an opportunity for parents to come to school and enjoy time with our staff.”
The parent-teacher organization-sponsored event helps fund supplies and activities held throughout the school year, including CPS’s end of the year reading celebration in May.
Admission, which comes with a packet of bingo cards, is $3 per person; in addition, two cash prize games will be played for $2 a card. With the cash games, the winner will receive half of the money collected for that particular game. Pizza will be sold for $2 a slice and canned soft drinks are 50 cents each; a family special of one pizza with four drinks is $20.
An added feature of the spring event is a silent auction of baskets created by each grade level at the school. This year’s baskets include “Movie Night” by prekindergarten, with popcorn bags, boxed candies, snacks and movies on dvd; “Kinder’garden'” by the kindergarten classes, filled with spring items for the lawn and garden; “Fun in the Sun” with first grade, showcasing summer fun essentials; “Grillin’ and Chillin'” with the second grade, featuring a cooler stocked with grilling and tailgating items; “Frozen” with the third grade, a basket suitable for a child’s Easter surprise and filled with items from the popular movie; and “Life’s A Picnic” with the fourth grade, a picnic basket complete with soccer ball, Frisbee, paper plates, utensils and non-perishable food items.
Prior to the start of the bingo games, Chocowinity Primary School will host family night at the book fair in the library from 3 to 6 p.m., according to Vosburgh.
