First Bank of Washington and Alzheimer’s North Carolina hosted its first annual 5K Run to Remember on Saturday.
More than 60 people ran in the vent and over 40 did so competitively. All proceeds benefited Alzheimer’s research and finding a cure. The 3.1-mile race went from Festival Park in downtown Washington into Washington Park and back.
The race timed and sanctioned by Run the East using electronic chip technology.
“I just want to thank all of the volunteers, the First Bank Team, emergency personnel, Run the East and the runners for making the first Run to Remember 5K possible,” said organizer Bridget Jefferson in a letter to the Daily News. “I also wanted to thank all of the sponsors who sponsored the event: First Bank, C.J. Wilson Foundation, Washington Daily News, Alligood Insurance, Travel 7 Store, TJ’s Marine Construction, Walgreens, Paul Woolard Construction, Double H Farms, BJs of Sidney, Bath General Store, Scattered Acres, Acre Station Meat Farm, Down East Tire, Piggy Wiggly, Food Lion, Hibbett Sports and Bridget J Jewelry.”
