BATH — Holden Newman of Washington was the overall winner of the inaugural 5K Gull Run held Sunday, April 19. The event was part of Gullfest, the annual spring festival held at Beaufort County Community College and coordinated by the college’s running club, Gulls on the Run.

Presenting sponsor of the race was the Hildred Moore Aquatic and Fitness Center. Other sponsors of the event were Vidant Beaufort Hospital, Sheetz of Washington and Mayo and Mayo Attorneys at Law. Medals for the event were fabricated by the faculty and students in BCCC’s Mechanical Engineering Technology Program.

More than 30 people ran in the event with proceeds benefiting club activities and the BCCC Foundation. The race was timed and sanctioned by Run the East using electronic chip technology.

“I want to thank all the volunteers, our corporate sponsors and Run the East for making our inaugural run possible,” said event chairman Michele Mayo. “I also want to thank all those who came out to run on what was predicted to be a day of very bad weather.”

“This event would not have been possible without the support of the Town of Bath, which provided the site for a very beautiful run along the historic waterfront,” Mayo said. “I look forward to seeing everyone next year.”
