ECA recognizes swimmers at annual banquet

MORHEAD CITY — East Carolina Aquatics honored nine high school seniors at its annual awards banquet on April 19 at the Crystal Coast Civic Center.
Those recognized were Cameron Anderson of Tarboro High School, Megan Baldwin of Washington High School, Trey Pofahl, Emerson “Emmie” Barnhill and her twin brother Kelly Barnhill all of J.H. Rose High School, Zach Darden of Goldsboro High School, and D.H. Conley’s Tristyn Daughtry, Hannah Eberenz and Brent Hill.
Anderson, Kelly Barnhill, Darden and Pofahl plan to attend and swim for East Carolina University. Baldwin, Emmie Barnhill and Eberenz will attend North Carolina State University, where Barnhill will swim for the Wolfpack. Daughtry will attend and swim for Campbell University. Hill will attend Webb Institute.
The seniors combined GPA is over 4.0. The senior swimmers presented ECA head coach Casey Charles with a new pair of running shoes.
Emma Hastings, Morgan Despres, Jack Nowacek and James Reindl were also recognized and named Age Group Swimmers of the Year.
Performance of the Year awards went to Svea Torres and Trey Pofahl. Senior Swimmers of the Year were Emmie Barnhill and Zach Darden. Abigail Burns and Andrew Landry received the Perdue Scholarship Award, provided annually by Tammy and Phil Perdue of Greenville.
Bob Landry, president of the ECA board of directors, recognized Phyllis Hodges as ECA’s Volunteer of the Year. An award will be given annually in Hodges’ name to the organization’s volunteer of the year. Outgoing directors Missy Eason, Bedie Kohake and Virginia Pou were recognized for their years of service on the ECA board. Sherry Pofahl was recognized for her service with the President’s Award.
Coaches at pool sites in Greenville, Morehead City, Cape Carteret and Washington recognized swimmers in each training group for their achievements this year.
