To the Editor:
I guess Brian Williams’ recent case of “misremembering” may be contagious. After reading the “Taking a Toll” article in the Sunday, March 29, edition of the Washington Daily News, I was surprised by Senator Cook’s comments about “being opposed to the institution of tolls or increasing tolls on all ferry routes in North Carolina since beginning my legislative career.” It seems he has “misremembered” a lot of previous statement he has made on the subject.
Examples are as follows:
May 2011, www.wdnweb.com/2011/05/21/cook-weighs-toll-issue/, key quote, “Most of these people have a good job and can afford a small fee.”
January 2012: www.wdnweb.com/2012/01/06/ferry-toll-meetings-set/, key quote, “I think ferries should not be free.”
February 2012: www.newsobserver.com/2012/02/05/18311480/working-class-commuters-dread.html, key quote, “An unfortunately for folks that are riding the ferries, it was found that we needed to get a few million dollars out of that system in order to offset some of the other costs.”
So it seems that Mr. Cook has made a major flip-flop on his view on the Republican Ferry Tax (good for him!), however, was his comment in the WDN on Sunday 3/29/15, a case of “misremembering” or was it a case of out-and-out “misleading” his constituents?
