Mr. Guy Abner Cutler, age 73, died Monday, May 25, 2015, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, NC.
A funeral service will be held at 11am Thursday, May 28, 2015, in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, NC. The service will be officiated by Billy Ray Askew and Reverend Curtis White. A Masonic burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 27, 2015, from 7-8:30pm at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory.
Mr. Cutler was born in Washington on July 10, 1941, to the late Abner Waters Cutler and Doris Juliet Cutler. On August 3, 1968, he married Carol Ann Combs, who survives.
After graduating from Bath High School in 1959 with twelve years of perfect attendance, he attended North Carolina State University. He graduated from NCSU in 1963 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Animal Science, and later completed his certification in Agriculture Education. He began his career with the N.C. Department of Agriculture in 1963 and later served as Director of the Poultry and Egg Division. In 1973, he started his dream job of teaching agriculture at Bath High School and later Northside High School until he retired in 1998. Mr. Cutler was as past President of the North Carolina Agriculture Teachers’ Association, one of only nine from North Carolina to serve as National Future Farmers of America Advisor, and earned every degree from the FFA.
He was a former member of the Bath Ruritan Club, Bath Planning Board, and the Town of Bath’s Board of Adjustment. He was also a Mason and member of Bath Christian Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Anne Cutler Mueller and husband Kraig, of Raleigh, and Jennifer Cutler Matthews of Raleigh; four granddaughters who adored their Papa, Sallie Anne Mueller, Elizabeth Lathan Mueller, Erin Katherine Mueller, and Saylor Kay Matthews of Raleigh; two sisters, Phyllis Rose and husband Billy of Washington, and Brenda Howe of Cary. Mr. Cutler was preceded in death by his brother Arthur Michael Cutler.
