Mrs. Ida Mae Jones Barnes Rowell, age 85, a former resident of Craven, Pamlico and Beaufort counties died Monday June 8, 2015 at Pruitt Health-Neuse in New Bern.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 12, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Pastor Noah Tripp and Rev. Jerry Wimer. Pallbearers will be Wayne Toler, William Toler, Michael Toler, James Toler, Preston Norman and Melvin Mitchell. Burial will follow in the Lee Cemetery in the Small Community of Aurora.
The family will receive friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.
Mrs. Ida Mae was born in Beaufort County on January 9, 1930 daughter of the late Isaac Jones and the late Elizabeth “Lizzie” Rowe Jones. On January 15, 1946 she married Willie Cecil Barnes who preceded her in death on May 16, 1971. On August 18, 1981 she married Ralph Rowell who preceded her in death on November 1, 1997. Mrs. Ida Mae dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker. She loved her garden, cooking and reading her bible and never missed sending special occasion cards to her family and friends, some she even made.
Survivors include five sons: Jesse Barnes of Greenville, N.C., Johnny Barnes of Jackson, S.C., Robert Barnes of Haughton, LA, Danny Barnes of Bridgeton, N.C. and Marty Barnes of Vanceboro; two daughters: Lillian Manning Jones of Greenville and Barbara Pegram of Bayboro; four step-daughters; a step-son; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; thirteen step-grandchildren; seventeen step-great grandchildren and twelve step great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son: Autry Rogers; a daughter: Angela Marie Barnes; three grandsons: Timmy Barnes, Jerry Barnes and Randy Barnes three sisters: Tiny J. Toler, Blanche J. Norman and Maybelle Jones and a brother: Clyde A. Jones.
