Heaven on East Main Street

To the Editor,
After my family moved into our renovated house on East Main Street, we felt like we were in heaven! Overlooking the beautiful river and being walk distance to town is ideal.
But all that changed in an instant with the arrival of our neighbor’s newly acquired dog. Understandably, most children desire animals. What child doesn’t as for a pony for Christmas or a fluffy kitten for their birthday? Our neighbor’s child is no exception. I would like to believe that most parents who give in to their child’s wishes attach a lesson of responsibility with acquiring a pet. This is not the case with my neighbors. The dog was placed in a small cage in the backyard with food and water and is very rarely let out. Soon after, another dog (a puppy this time) was added.
When my family takes our pets out back to play, all we can hear is the howling and crying of our neighbor’s dogs longing to be out running, playing and rolling in the grass as well. Because of this, we avoid spending any time in our beautiful backyard. It is only a constant reminder of the neglect and misery of those poor dogs next door.
