TEAM EFFORT: After routing Edenton on Friday, Post 15’s win over Dare County on Saturday moved the Pirates into first place in Area 1.

Beaufort County Post 15 continues to ride a wave of confidence into the final stretch of the season and on Saturday, the Pirates took sole possession of first place in Area 1, taking another step towards their regular season objective.

“We head into the postseason tournament in the second week in July,” said head coach Glenn Marsh. “Our goal is to be the No. 1 seed going into that tournament.”

Twenty-four hours after routing Edenton Post 40, 11-2, Post 15 again traveled to Manteo High School and took care of last place Dare County, 5-1.

Rising junior Austin Roscoe was masterful, pitching a complete game for Post 15. The Pirate ace faced 29 batters and gave up just six hits, one walk and one earned run, striking out five.

In the second inning, Beaufort County broke the score open with singles from Brock Marsh and Matthew Black, followed by a two-RBI double from Uriah Aaron. Post 15 padded its lead again with another two runs in the third on a costly infield error and hits by Roscoe and Tripp Barfield.

Dare County got to Roscoe in the fifth, leading off the inning with a double and a single, but Roscoe escaped further damage by forcing a fielder’s choice and a fly out to centerfield.

The final run for the Pirates came in the seventh after a Barfield double ignited a two-out rally.

After being promoted to the No. 3 slot in the lineup, Barfield’s hot bat has persisted, finishing the day 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Black also notched two hits and a walk. The Pirates notched nine hits in total.

With the win, Post 15 improves to 8-3 (5-1 Area 1) and will host Albemarle at Washington High School on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
