Claude Saunders Jr.

Aug. 23, 1947 – June 15, 2015

 

Mr. Claude Saunders Jr., age 67, a resident of Washington, died Monday, June 15, 2015, at his home while surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2015, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and will be conducted by Tony Congleton and Curtis Gardner. Entombment will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park Mausoleum in Greenville.

Mr. Saunders was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on Aug. 23, 1947, to the late Claude Saunders Sr. and Pearline Saunders who survives. He was a 1965 graduate of Edison High School in Philadelphia, Pa., and continued his education at Lincoln Technical Institute in Baltimore, Md., where he graduated in 1972. He retired as a diesel mechanic. He also served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic from 1967 to 1969 having served during the Vietnam War. On Oct. 16, 1971, he married the former Janett Taylor, who survives. He was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and dedicated his life to Jehovah in 1977. He served as a ministerial servant and regular pioneer in the Washington Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Survivors include his mother, Pearline Saunders of Philadelphia, Pa.; his wife, Janett Saunders, of the home; and one daughter, Chenisa Saunders Claud and husband Kenneth Claud of Pikesville, Md.; two brothers, Marvin Saunders and Stanford Saunders both of Philadelphia, Pa.; three sisters, Marlene Wilson of Philadelphia, Pa., Renee’ Saunders of Winston-Salem and Vanessa Saunders of Philadelphia, Pa.; and a host of loving extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by one daughter, LaQuita Saunders.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2015, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory.
