Nationally known artist and American Idol finalist Colton Dixon will hit the stage in Beaufort County next month thanks to an area radio station that features him on daily broadcasting.
The radio station 98.7 The Bridge in Chocowinity will present Dixon at Transitions Theater in Washington on July 25 at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are already on sale and cost $18 for general admission. For Gold Circle seating, a section reserved at the front of the audience, tickets are $30, and for VIP passes, tickets are $45, which include a meet and greet with Dixon and Gold Circle seating.
Dixon, a finalist in American Idol’s 11th season, debuted in 2013 with “A Messenger,” setting the record for the biggest first-week sales by a new solo Christian act. The album became the No. 1 selling album of 2013 by a new Christian artist and the No. 9 best-selling album across all genres that same year, according to a press release from Dixon.
Dixon received three Dove Award nominations, winning for Best Contemporary/Rock Album, and he was nominated for Male Artist of the Year at the 2014 KLOVE Fan Awards. He also racked up two No. 1 radio singles in 2013 and toured with Third Day, Toby Mac and Josh Wilson, as well as being named an Official Steinway Artist, by the legendary piano maker, the release said.
Recently, in the wake of the Charleston, SC tragedy, Dixon dedicated his music video for “Through All of It,” his latest song, to the city of Charleston, something that has really resonated with people, said Johnny Jones, owner and operator of The Bridge. The video was released this week and was featured in a Fox News interview.
“We’re excited about (the concert),” Jones said. “We’re looking forward to it being a great event. (Dixon) is just really using this platform to reach people, and he’s got a gift, and he wants to share that for God’s glory. (The dedication) is just really connecting with people in a big way. It’s all about Christ and community and making a positive difference.”
The Bridge spreads hope, encouragement and inspiration through its daily broadcasting, but through similar events like a 2013 concert featuring Christian contemporary group Phillips, Craig and Dean, Jones says the radio station wants to facilitate locals having the opportunity to see Christian artists up close and personal, something that has been well received by the community.
“It felt like we were in a place where the Lord was leading us to do events, and we really started making contacts within the Christian contemporary industry this year. God has really started to open up doors for us to reach out and bring artists to the area,” Jones said. “(The artists) are passionate about what they do, they love God, and they love people and they want to get out there and share it with people. The community is so warm and inviting to what we’re doing, and we’re just really grateful for that.
Jones said the Dixon concert event will also serve as the launch for an event slated for October. On Oct. 18 at 5 p.m., during the weekend of Smoke on the Water, the radio station will host The Time of My Life Tour, featuring four nationally known artists — the Afters with Chris August, Unspoken and Among the Thirsty — at Festival Park. Ticket sales for the event will start the night of the Dixon concert and those interested will have the chance to access a special promotional code for the following 24 hours, allowing them to get tickets and save money, Jones said.
