Freddie L. Elks

July 26, 1946 – June 27, 2015

 

Mr. Freddie Lee Elks, age 68, a resident of 2418 Chandler Road, the Wilmar Community of Vanceboro, NC, completed his long journey home on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.  He finished the good fight, surrounded by his family, and finally embracing his Savior.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday June 30, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Pastor Phillip Jethro.

The family will receive friends 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday June 29, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and following the service at Mr. Elks’ daughter Wendy Godley located at 4550 Market Street, Washington.

Mr. Freddie was a brilliant carpenter, gifted artist, beloved funny man and practical joker. He enjoyed a good music & conversation, and he maintained a life-long interest in Bible studies, amassing a remarkable knowledge of Bible Trivia and prophecy.   He was born in Beaufort County on July 26, 1946, son of the late William Isaac Elks and the late Marjorie Clark Elks Hodges.  He was a 1965 graduate of Washington High School.  On October 2, 1985 he married the former Brenda Daylene Williams who survives.  He was a Christian, a self-employed carpenter and a lifetime member of the NRA.

Surviving along with his wife Brenda of the home are three daughters: Wendy E. Godley (Carlton) of Washington, Donna Elks of Raleigh and Vickie Powers (Jesse) of Wilmar;  two sons: Mark Elks of Wilmar and Ray McLawhorn (Kristi) of Wilmar, honorary daughter and CNA: Wendy Spain of Jamesville;  a brother: David Elks (Kathy) of Wake Forest; four sisters: Eva Mae Davis of Washington, Betty Lou Cutler (Walter) of Washington, Linda Tetterton of Pinetown and Marlene Ingalls (McCoy) of Missouri and nine grandchildren: Cameron Alarie Elks, Jesse Powers, IV, Christian Trey Elks, Stephen McLawhorn, Galen Powers, Haley Hutchins, Desoray Elks, Alyssa McLawhorn and Colby James Elks.  Mr. Elks was preceded in death by two brothers, William E. Elks, Sr. and LeRoy Elks, and one sister Joanne Elks Hodges.
