Robert Edwin Wilkinson passed from this life Friday, July 10, 2015. He was born in Washington, NC on October 30, 1926 to the late Edwin W. and Odelle V. Wilkinson, and grew up on a farm in nearby Pantego, NC. He was a graduate of Pantego High School and Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College), and a veteran of the US Navy, serving on three different ships during World War II. He was retired from Leeds and Northrup Company, where he spent most of his working career as a sales engineer. He was an avid gardener, and loved to work in his yard tending his vegetables and flowers. He also loved saltwater fishing, and enjoyed taking his boat out into the Chesapeake Bay or to the Outer Banks with friends and family.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of nearly 64 years, Anne O’Neal Wilkinson; three sons, Robert Edwin Wilkinson, Jr. (Eddie) and his wife Martha, James Walton Wilkinson (Walt) and his wife Celeste, and Cecil David Wilkinson (David); five grandchildren, Sarah Wilkinson, Matthew Wilkinson, Madeline Carter Wilkinson, Mary Rose Wilkinson, and Clementine Wilkinson; his brother, Donald Wilkinson and his wife Patricia; and his niece and nephew, Donna Wilkinson Thorne and Christopher Wilkinson. He was preceded in death by his half-brother, Haywood Lancaster.
A memorial service will be held at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Chester, 3050 W. Hundred Road, on Friday, July 17 at 2 PM. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at 2 PM Saturday, June 18 at Yeatesville Cemetery in Yeatesville, NC. Condolences may be registered online at www.jtmorriss.com.
