The Beaufort County Arts Council’s 8th Annual Juried Photography Exhibit will open Thursday night with a reception from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at the BCAC Gallery at the Turnage Theatre. The exhibit will run through Aug. 27.
Juror Harry Taylor chose 31 works from 106 entries submitted by 31 different photographers. According to BCAC Executive Director Joey Toler, the show is especially strong this year.
“Harry Taylor did a great job choosing work from the many entries we received,” Toler said. “It’s always exciting the see the variety of work this show attracts.”
Awards include first, second and third place plus honorable mentions in five categories: documentary/people, landscapes/places, nature/wildlife, mixed media/alternative process and a youth division for photographers under age 18. Special awards include the Stewart Jewelry Store Best in Show award, the Washington Daily News award for work best depicting photojournalism and the Jeff and Helen Sommerkamp Inman History award. The Ernest E. and Ethel Harding Cutler award for outstanding works in the youth category is sponsored by Kevin Scott Cutler. Two awards sponsored by ASAP Photo & Camera, Inc. include Best Color (digitally enhanced) and Best Color (non-enhanced).
