DOWN EAST SENIORS CLUB

The Down East Seniors Club held its July 22 meeting at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. President Stewart Rumley led the meeting. Bill Cheshire led the singing of “God Bless America” and Charlie Mike Smith gave the invocation. Dick Robinson and Dick Paul provided humor.

Program Chairman Dick Paul introduced Rod Cantrell, Financial Advisor with Edward Jones. Cantrell said his primary objective is to help his clients be financially secure in retirement; that is, to not outlive their money. Three things he cannot do are to accurately forecast the stock market, time the market and predict performance of an individual stock. Two things he recommends are to make a financial plan and use a long-term investment perspective. One way of achieving this is to buy a number of good dividend-paying stocks and holding them.

Sam Price won the 50/50 drawing.
