Sheriff’s office makes fraud arrests

On May 12, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a fraud at a residence on Bonner Circle. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation by interviewing the victim and collecting evidence.
As a result of information and evidence gathered during the investigation, Investigator Jason Hill applied for and obtained warrants charging Crystal Monique Smith, 28, of Turkey Trot No. 1 Road, Washington, with four counts of obtaining property by false pretenses and four counts of identity theft.
On July 15, Smith was arrested by the Washington Police Department and was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond set by Magistrate Donald Sadler.
In a separate incident, on June 9, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of fraud on River Road in Washington. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation by interviewing the victim and collecting evidence.
On July 20, the Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of larceny of electricity at the same location.
As a result of information and evidence gathered during the investigations, Investigator Jason Hill applied for and obtained warrants charging Steven Tyler Greene, 20, of River Road, Washington, with two counts of obtaining property by false pretense, two counts of identity theft, one count of misdemeanor reconnecting utilities and one count of misdemeanor larceny.
On July 23, Greene was arrested by deputies with the patrol division and was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $2,000 secured bond set by Magistrate Mills.
