Chocowinity Middle sees changes in leadership

Chocowinity Middle School has seen administrative upheaval during the past couple of months — with both Principal Micki Warren and Assistant Principal Crystal Dixon putting in resignations.
Dixon’s resignation was effective at the end of June, while Warren’s resignation is listed to become official in mid-August, although she has already left the school.
Both Dixon and Warren spent about two years in the administrative positions at Chocowinity Middle, as they were hired during the summer of 2013.
Despite concerns from parents and students, the middle school is getting back on track with the hire of its new principal Kimberly Gibbs, formerly the assistant principal at P.S. Jones Middle School. Her new position was effective as of July 20.
Sarah Hodges, public information officer at Beaufort County Schools, said she was unable to comment on the resignations of both Warren and Dixon.
She said there was an interview for the principal’s position, and candidates were from both inside and outside the county.
Now that she has been hired, Gibbs will be involved in interviewing candidates for the assistant principal position, Hodges said.
Gibbs began teaching in Pitt County in 1996, but she came to P.S. Jones Middle School in 2001. In 2011, she was promoted to assistant principal at the middle school.
“She has tremendous people skills that will translate wherever she is, and we’re really glad she’s continuing to use her talents within Beaufort County,” Hodges said.
Gibbs was not available for comment.
