A rock to stand on

Next week, New Birth Church of Christ in Washington will host local students for a three-day revival, giving attendees some positive, spiritual guidance for the upcoming school year.
The event was held last year, and because of its success, the church is hosting it a second time and inviting area students to attend. According to organizers, the revival’s multi-faceted, holistic approach is something that could greatly benefit attendees.
Kids of every age group go through daily trials and challenges in school. And with today’s peer pressures, bullying and other negative influences, the revival is a positive beacon in the community. Not only will students participate in faith-based activities like praise and worship, but they’ll also hear first-hand accounts from community leaders, like Patricia Horton, Washington High School assistant principal, and Beaufort County Commissioner Ed Booth, as well as encouraging words from spiritual leaders in the area.
For families, making this event a priority for their children to attend might just be a good idea. It could mean the difference between one’s child starting out the school year refreshed and with a positive outlook or starting out on a bad note.
Not only will attendees be exposed to positive, encouraging words to fall back on, but they’ll also have the opportunity to meet other students, members of the community and spiritual leaders, potentially building relationships they can call on in the future.
A 14-year veteran of the Beaufort County School system and a local pastor are heading up the event. They have put in the time and effort to pull resources from businesses and organizations, providing snacks and treats for each night of the revival, as well as much-needed school supplies, though supplies are limited.
What the revival really means is there are people in this community outside the school system that really care about all students in the county. That is surely a great thing for students — one that can give them a rock to stand on during tough times this upcoming school year.
