Mrs. Minnie O’Neal Woolard Spain, age 76, died Tuesday morning July 28, 2015 at River Trace Nursing Center.
The family will receive friends at 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, followed by a service at 1:00 PM officiated by Minister Stewart Woodley. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Victor Keith Waters, Jr., Elton Homer Spain, III “Trey,” Guy “Edward” Potter, IV, Dallas James Spain, Jr., Benjamin Donald Waters and Alex Reed Spain will serve as pallbearers. Daniel Blake Waters and Allen Ray Wainwright, II will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Spain was born in Beaufort County on November 22, 1938, daughter of the late James Albert Woolard and Lucy Frances Alligood Woolard. On May 12, 1954, she married Elton Homer Spain, Sr. who preceded her in death on June 26, 1982. She was a homemaker, a devoted wife, companion and friend. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Spain was a member of University Church of Christ in Greenville.
She is survived by her children: Vicky Spain Born and husband John of Bethel, Minnie “Cissy” Spain Wainwright and husband Ray, Elton Homer Spain, Jr. and wife Roxann, Dallas James Spain and wife “Dink” and Kenneth Robbin Spain and wife Dawn, all of Washington, Penny Spain Waters and husband Victor of Bath; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; her brother: Billy Ray Woolard of Washington; her sisters: Hannah Marie Alligood, Trumella Woolard and Betty Lou Sutton of Washington and her companion: William “Bill” Vernon of Bethel. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her son: Christopher Joe Spain; her grandson: Joey Spain; her brothers: John B. Woolard, Arvie D. Woolard and William Thomas Woolard and her sisters: Maybelle Squires and Mary Helen McRoy.
