Local dancers perform at national competition

Centerstage Dance Company, under the direction of LeAnne Jones-Braly, competed at Star Talent National Finals in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The event took place July 15-19. Thirty-six studios and dance companies from North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida competed Wednesday and
Thursday in the solo division and Friday through Sunday in group dances. Five judges had the task of scoring 543 dances in five days.
Lauren Rouse’s solo received high gold, first place in jazz, and ninth place overall. Emma Wood was awarded platinum. Zoe Davenport received high gold for her solo. MacKenzie Rouse also received high gold. Kayley Sulc was a platinum winner, first place in lyrical and third place overall.
The Petite Company, a small lyrical group, was awarded a high gold and fourth place overall. The Teen Company received four high golds, one gold, as well as took first place in the character category and seventh, eighth and ninth places overall.
Centerstage advanced to Star Talent Nationals after attending the Regional Competition March 14-15 in Louisburg. In the solo division, the following awards were presented: Lauren Rouse-gold; Emma Wood and Zoe Davenport-high gold; MacKenzie Rouse-high gold; Kayley Sulc-high platinum, first place in lyrical, second place overall and the Judges Award-graceful dancer. The Petite Company won platinum, first place in lyrical small group and first place overall; the Teen Company won three platinum and two high gold awards. They ranked first place, fifth place, eighth place and 10th place pverall.
Centerstage Dance Company is home based with Dance Works Performing Arts Center located at 149B N. Market St. in Washington. Centerstage performs at the Washington Civic Center in March for its annual Dinner Theater and at Dance Works Recital in May, as well as, regional and national competitions.
