Sybil O’Neal Cox passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Sybil was born in Hyde County, residing all of her adult life in Beaufort County.
After graduating from Washington High School, she immediately began employment with the Betsy Ross Company, which later became Washington Garment Company. Sybil loved her job as office manager and was welcomed for 32 years into Ross family. After a short period of time, she began part-time work as the office receptionist for very special people at the law firm of Rodman, Holscher, Peck and Edwards.
In a small country Christian church in Hyde County, Sybil was baptized into Christ at a very young age. In the late 1950s in Washington, she became a part of the First Church of Christ on 10th Street, where the word “home” became an assuring reality. Always surrounded by the “Word,” great fellowship and many loving and forgiving friends over the years.
On December 9, 1955, she married Glenn Taylor Cox, who preceded her in death, January 3, 1992.
In addition to her husband, Sybil was preceded in death by son, Glenn T. Cox, Jr. on January 15, 2008; parents, Harry and Allene Harris O’Neal; and sister, Jo Ann O’Neal May.
She is survived by an older brother, Landa L. O’Neal of Sun City, California; his wife, Barbara; two sons, Steven and Michael and their extended families of whom is she quite proud of; a God-given granddaughter, Brandy McKinney Wiley; her husband, and three children of Arden, N.C.; one niece, Belinda K. Baum of Naperville, Ill; one nephew, Rodney Jones of Gaston, S.C.; and several cousins; special friends, Robert and Verlie Singleton, Robert and Linda McKinney and Jay and Pat Waters.
Visitation will be from the home, 137 Pirate Cove Road, Washington.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington. The service will be officiated by Ray West.
Following the graveside service, please feel welcome to come by the home to enjoy together a reception of food and fellowship.
