From the American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is teaming up with 95.1 WRNS, BOB 93.3 and Rock 105 to help boost the blood supply today on the Washington waterfront.

Eligible donors are invited to donate blood at the fifth-annual Summer Hero Tour Blood Drive from noon to 6 p.m. at three locations: The Double Tree, 100 Middle St., New Bern; the Washington waterfront, 301 Stewart Parkway, Washington; and Jacksonville Mall, 375 Western Blvd., Jacksonville. All presenting donors will receive a free T-shirt, courtesy of Carolina East Medical Center, while supplies last.

During the summer months of June, July and August, on average, about two fewer donors schedule an appointment to give blood at each Red Cross blood drive than what patients need.

Blood and platelet donations are needed every day for patients with many serious medical conditions. Accident and burn victims, heart surgery patients, organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease may all need blood products.

All three radio stations will broadcast live from the blood drives at various times throughout the day. Blood donors will have an opportunity to meet their favorite radio personalities while helping to save lives.

“The entire Digity Cluster is passionate about helping the Red Cross and making these drives a success. The need for blood is so great, especially this time of year, and it’s something that can’t be created. If we can help to save one life from these drives, it’s absolutely worth it,” said Carletta Blake, WRNS program director and mid-day personality.
