Nov. 21, 1955 – Aug. 23, 2015

Mr. Richard Allen Potter, age 59, a resident of Chocowinity, died Sunday, August 23, 2015 at his home.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Southside High School auditorium and will be conducted by Bobby Owens. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Troy Buck, Bob Perry Jr., Clinton Cayton, Coy Godley, Herman Tyson and Lee Mills will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Potter was born in Beaufort County on November 21, 1955 to the late Loyd and Mary Mills Potter. He was a 1974 graduate of Chocowinity High School and attended East Carolina University. He was employed with Warren’s Sport Headquarters for over 30 years, was a volunteer for Chocowinity Primary and Middle schools, Southside Seahawks Booster Club, Relay for Life and many other organizations. Richard was a member of Memorial Free Will Baptist Church and the Layman’s League.

Survivors include one brother, John Potter and wife Nikki of Rock Springs, Wyoming, sister-in-law, Jessie Potter of Chocowinity, niece, Karla Roadifer and husband Justin and children, two nephews, Jason Potter and wife Heather and children and Chris Potter and a special cousin, Madlyn Perry and husband Bobby of Chocowinity. He is also survived by other extended family. He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Potter.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Southside High School.
