Janice Upton Davenport, 74, of Cedar Point, NC, formerly of Washington, died Monday, August 31, 2015 at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

A gathering of family and friends will be hosted at a later date by Teresa Upton­Harris and Nina Hamilton at the home of Rob and Teresa Harris.

Mrs. Davenport was born in Washington on May 30, 1941 to Claude Upton and Thelma May Alligood Upton. She had a huge wit, infectious laugh, loved all music, loved to dance, touched everyone’s heart and was well loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Walter Glenn Davenport of Cedar Point, NC; granddaughter, Lauren Davenport of Cedar Point, NC; and brother, Kenneth Upton of Augusta, GA.

In addition to her parents, her daughter, Vicky Davenport; sisters, Viola Cauly, Elizabeth Woolard and Lorina Wright; and brothers, Claude Thomas Upton Jr. and Gary Upton, preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jim “Catfish” Hunter ALS Foundation, P.O. Box 47, Hertford, NC 27944.
