Estelle May Tweedy Basnight, 93, of 413 N. Light Street, Columbia, died on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.
Born in Tyrrell County, May 13, 1922, she was the daughter of the late James Henry and Alethia Mooris Tweedy, and married to Leon Milton Basnight who preceded her in death.  She was a retired postal clerk with the Columbia Post Office where she worked for 37 years and was a member of Albemarle Church of Christ.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Albemarle Church of Christ.  Rev. Royce Reynolds will officiate. Burial will follow in Azalea Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne Holt, Ronnie Edwards, Bud Midgett, J. W. Basnight, David Patrick and Kip Gibbs.
Surviving are a son, Mac Forest Basnight  and wife, Mary of Manteo; a brother, Linwood “Junior” Everette of Roper; sister, Alice Davenport of West Virginia; and her sister-in-law, Elva Rae Basnight of Columbia. She was “Mamaw” to Brandy Mann and Aaron of Columbia, Jack Forest Basnight, Garrett Forest Basnight of Manteo and Codi Mann of Newport, NC. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she so greatly loved.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, James Henry Tweedy Jr. and sisters, Beulah Gibbs and Pearl Edwards.
