She was born in Beaufort County on November 7, 1926 daughter of the late Jesse Coward and Florence Alligood Coward. Mrs. Congleton married James (Fuzzy) Marshal Congleton who preceded her in death on May 6, 2005. She worked many years at Leggetts cleaners and retired. She loved cooking Sunday dinners for her family whom she loved dearly, but her true passion was to go, go, go and to eat out. To most everyone who knew her, she was called “Monkey Lee,” which many people thought was her name. She loved to shop at Wal-Mart and Roses. Monkey Lee was a very special sister, mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by a daughter: Katherine C. Jeffers, and husband George; two stepsons: Larry Congleton and Steve Congleton; two sisters: Edith C. Foreman and Shirley C. Whisenand and a brother: Jesse S. Coward and his wife, Annie. Mrs. Congleton also has eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husband, Monkey Lee was preceded in death by a daughter: Santa Faye Woolard; a granddaughter: Connie Sheppard; a brother: George Collin Sheppard and two brothers-in-law: Beryl Foreman and Walter Jason Whisenand.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM Wednesday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and at 10:45 AM will follow in procession to the cemetery.
