Evelyn K. Winstead, age 86, a resident of Washington, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015. Mrs. Winstead was born in New Hanover County, NC on September 11, 1928 to the late Elbert T. and Sudie Hawkins Kemp. She attended local schools and graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1947. She worked as a secretary with the Beaufort County Board of Education, was an interviewer with the Employment Security Commission, and retired with the NC Department of Natural Resources. Mrs. Winstead was a member of Ware’s Chapel United Methodist Church of Washington.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her four brothers, Jeff Kemp, Robert W. Kemp, James E. Kemp and E.T. Kemp Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy Moye and husband, Richard of Greenville, NC; her brother, Raymond Kemp of Sumter, SC; one grandson, Cameron Todd Moye of Greenville, NC; and a number of caring nieces.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2015 in the chapel at Hillside Funeral Service, Washington, with Pastor Joan Fischer officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations. A private burial will be held at Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
