Mr. William Earl Smith, born and raised in Chocowinity, died Monday, September 7, 2015 at his home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will be conducted by Rev. Ola Forbes Jr. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Smith was born in 1929 in Beaufort County to the late William and Minnie Barrington Smith. On June 29, 1957 he married Edeltraud “Trudy” Marie Mueller who survives. He was a 1947 graduate of Chocowinity High School, United States Air Force retired electronics technician and was formerly employed with Brown & Root Construction at Texas Gulf as a carpenter. He was a member of the Washington V.F.W. Post 6088, Air Force Sergeants Association and Wayside Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife Edeltraud “Trudy” M. Smith of the home, two daughters, Barbara S. Lane and husband Thomas of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Vera S. Buck and husband Theron of Chocowinity, one brother, James T. Smith and wife Edna of Plymouth, three sisters, Elizabeth Clark of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Margie Lanning of Pennsylvania, Lucille McDonald and husband Herbert of Lufkin, Texas, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother, Eulus G. Smith and four sisters, Louise Smith, Ruby Meeks, Doris Res and Evaleen Elliot.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
