Old Ford Ruritan Club welcomes band director

OLD FORD RURITAN CLUB

President Jeff Mault called the meeting to order, and welcomed members and guest. Jeff Mault led the group in the singing of “America,” and J A Jackson gave the prayer for the meal. Butch Furguson introduced Abi Shuford, the band director for Washington High School. Abi presented a report on the band program and what the needs were at this time for the high school band. Jeff Mault presented the treasurer’s report in the absence of Curtis Rogers. Thank you notes were read from the students who received Old Ford Ruritan scholarships. Thelbert Leggett was presented his Ruritan pin. Butch Furguson presented a report on the dictionaries for the schools and that we were very close to a presentation of the dictionaries. It was reported that the calendar sales are needed by the October meeting. On Oct. 17, the annual Old Ford Ruritan BBQ would be held. Bobby Hodges made a motion that we offer the Woodmen Life $500 for the old Woodmen property at Old Ford. J A Jackson made a second to the motion. The motion was voted on and passed as presented. In new business, Hunters for the Hungry was discussed, with more information to be shared at a later date. The Ruritan of the Year was discussed with more information presented at a later date. The Greenville-Goldsboro District Convention will be held on Nov. 7 at the Winterville Baptist Church in Winterville. With no other business, the president closed the meeting with the pledge to the American flag.
