A local church invites the community to attend the seventh and final feast observed in the Jewish calendar year.

Assembly of the Children of God Christian Church is hosting the Feast of the Tabernacle from Sept. 28 through Oct. 5 at the church. The feast is one of seven observed throughout the year including Passover, the Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, Pentecost, Trumpets, Atonement and Tabernacles.

The church will host a morning service each day of the week at 10:30 a.m., led by Pastor James Beatty, according to Gustavia Smallwood, a church member. Following the services, the church will host fun, food and fellowship for members and guests. A special evening service will be held on Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m., a service that Smallwood says is a night for families.

Throughout the week, guests from across the state and other states will also join church members in taking in the sights of the area, including a visit to the North Carolina Estuarium on Tuesday. Church members normally travel to other states to join in observing the Feast, Smallwood said.

“It’s a blessing to have the opportunity and strength to go through all the steps and preparation (for the Feast),” said Tuyet Moore, a member and evangelist at the church. “The closer it gets, the more exciting (it is) and more rejoicing we do because it’s just a really exciting opportunity to have it here, as we’ve been apart of it outside and visited other locations (to observe the Feast). The blessing to work hard to glorify God is truly an unspeakable blessing.”

Beatty said he feels privileged to be able to host the feast in the Washington community and hopes the community will join the church in the observance.

“We would just be overjoyed to have those in the community, who would like to come out and celebrate.”

Assembly of the Children of God Christian Church is located at 5954 U.S. Highway 17 North, Washington.
