TUESDAY ROUND UP: Washington soccer routs Ayden-Grifton

The Washington soccer team activated the mercy rule in a 9-0 blowout of Ayden-Grifton on Tuesday at a rain-soaked Choppy Wagner Stadium.

Senior midfielder Freddy Jimenez finished with a hat trick, bringing his season total to a team-best 22 goals, while forward Rob Zerniak also tallied three goals. Senior Kyle Hodges, junior Ben McKeithan and junior Jhovani Tellez finished one goal each.

With the win, Washington improves to 9-1 and will rematch the Chargers in Ayden on Thursday with an earlier start time of 4:30 p.m.

 

SOUTHSIDE SOCCER BLASTS RIVERSIDE, ENDS LOSING STREAK

CHOCOWINITY — The Southside soccer team ended its two-game slide on Monday with a 9-4 victory over Riverside (1-7).

For the Seahawks, sophomore midfielder Devin Guzman finished with a game-high five goals, while forward Fabian Ramirez tallied two goals and two assists on the afternoon. Caleb Petty and David Romero also finished with a goal apiece.

With the win, Southside improves to 6-2 and will face Southwest Edgecombe (0-5-2) on Thursday.

 

UNITY SOCCER DEFEATS PAMLICO COUNTY HOMESCHOOL

CHOCOWINITY — Unity striker Avery Bowen scored his 38th goal of the season on Monday in a 6-4 win over Pamlico County Homeschool.

The Warriors Nathan Arther and Mario Bartolo scored one goal apiece, while Bowen finished with four goals

With the win, Unity improves to 4-4-2 and will face Trinity in Greenville on Thursday.
