The Beaufort County Concert Association kicks off its new concert series next week, bringing a highly entertaining and energetic show to a Washington venue.

Five more shows, spanning the months until May 2016, will provide a lineup of opportunities for local residents to hear a variety of genres provided by nationally known acts.

On Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m., the association will present Savannah Jack from Nashville, Tennessee, comprised of Don Gatlin on lead vocals, Jay Darby on bass and Matt Schumacher on fiddle and guitar, as well as a guitar player and drum player backing them. Joe Guercio, Elvis Presley’s longtime music and orchestra director, calls Savannah Jack “the absolute best band I’ve seen in music today,” according to Savannah Jack’s website. The concert will be held at the Washington High School auditorium.

Savannah Jack has performed onstage with country music legend Kenny Rogers more than 60 times over the past few years and the band’s live show was recognized as one of the “Top Ten Concerts of 2010” in the greater Pittsburgh area by Beaver County Times writer Scott Tady. Other “Top-ten” selectees included Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and Lady GaGa.

According to Jerry Oughton, co-chair of the association’s publicity committee, the organization sends representatives to Nashville each year to pick the lineup for its upcoming season. Over the course of two days, the representatives audition over 30 acts and return to Washington with a schedule of events for local eyes and ears.

The association will host acts from various genres and talents on Nov. 19, Feb. 16, April 17 and May 15, Oughton said.

“The mission is always to bring versatile, entertaining family acts,” Oughton said.

As part of an outreach program, the association also coordinates special programs for area students. Though the organization offers free admission to any K-12 student, who is accompanied by a parent or guardian, it also arranges a performance by some of the acts for students, including those of Washington Montessori and area home-schoolers, to experience.

Single tickets may be picked up at the door on the date of the concert. For more information on pricing for concert tickets, visit www.gobcca.org and click on the “Pay Pal” link.
