CHOCOWINITY — Looking for a good fright this Halloween season? If so, Chocowinity is the place to be.

Raised in a Barn Farm continues its Six Nights of Fright through Halloween evening, with a little something planned for everyone.

A highlight is the haunted trail, first presented last year.

“I enjoy the fun of it … it changes up,” said Kobe Toften, a Washington High School senior who is helping out with the haunted extravaganza for a second year. “I meet the people who come through at the end and they always tell me how much they enjoyed it.”

This year’s Halloween festivities on the farm are bigger and better, according to Jane Boahn, whose family owns and operates the venue. The events not only provide evenings of entertainment, they also give back to the community in the way of cash donations to area schools. Anyone purchasing a ticket to the maze or haunted trail may designate one of the Beaufort County Schools and that school receives a dollar of the admission price. Donations may also be earmarked for the county’s 4-H program.

Volunteers with the Chocowinity Fire Department and EMS are also pitching in this year, partnering with farm staff on the project. As a result, the fire department shares in the proceeds.

Rounding out the festivities is the Lil Barn of Boos for the youngsters, vendors selling everything from funnel cakes to scented candles, music, hay rides, costume contests and games, according to Boahn.

The custom designed maze is open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday, noon to 11 p.m. and Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. The haunted trail is open Friday and Saturday evenings beginning at nightfall.
