Mr. Lonnie Hoover Williams Sr., age 86, a former resident of 470 Croatan Street, Belhaven, departed to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 18, 2015.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven, followed by a memorial service at 2:30 PM in the chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven, conducted by Rev. Freddie Harris. Burial will follow in Belhaven Community Cemetery.

Mr. Williams was born on August 4, 1929. He was the son of the late Reubin Williams and Sarah Credle Giles Williams. Mr. Williams entered the USAF/Army in 1946 at the age of 17 and received an honorable discharge. He began work with N.C. Department of Transportation in 1948. Mr. Williams retired in 1992 as an N.C. DOT Bridge Maintenance Supervisor for Beaufort County.

Mr. Williams loved the Lord, God, Our Heavenly Father. He loved to work with his hands. Mr. Williams was an accomplished carpenter and brick mason. For over 40 years, he ran a successful carpentry business along with his wife, Jackie. Mr. Williams built and renovated many homes throughout Belhaven and Beaufort County.

Mr. Williams was an avid history buff. He enjoyed talking about the past and enjoyed researching his family history with his daughter, Felicia. Mr. Williams had been legally blind for many years, yet that never kept him from his workshop. He had an engineer’s mind and spent hours designing bridges and houses.

Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 63 years, “The Love of My Life,” Jacqueline Midgett Williams; daughters, Felicia W. Smith (Garry) of Panama City, FL, Lisette M. Howland of Burkeburnett, TX; sisters, Marie Jeffers (Ronald) of Chester, VA., Ruth Brinn Martin of Jacksonville, NC; grandchildren, Rebecca Renee Smith, Mandalyn C. S. Hernandez (Esteban), Adriene E. Smith (Jesse), Matthew A. Smith (Stormie), Candace Miller, Charles Howland, Crystal Neuenswander; and great-grandchildren, Austin Smith, Aaron Smith, Alexander Peace, Ava Peace, Eric Strickland, Blake Miller, Jenna Miller, Ariel Howland and James Howland.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by a son, Lonnie H. Williams Jr.
