The Hyde County Historical and Genealogical Society held its fall meeting at Soule United Methodist Church in Swan Quarter on Oct. 25. More than 70 members, relatives and friends attended the afternoon meeting to hear Al Schmitt, a member of the Weston family, tell delightful stories and remembrances of his Weston ancestors. A bountiful reception provided by Soule church members followed the Society’s program.

The fall issue of the Society’s journal, “High Tides,” features a transcription of the marriage and death records from the Weston Family Scrapbook, a collection of clippings from the 1880s until the 1920s that were neatly pasted in a large book. The scrapbook itself is composed of those articles along with many others on morality, historical significance, humor and news items of interest to the Weston family. In addition, the indexed fall journal has a section of “Abstracts of Hyde County, Deed Book C.”

The Hyde County Historical and Genealogical Society’s purpose is to preserve and record history of Hyde County and its people. New members are always welcome.  For more information and a list of publications, contact the Society at P.O. Box 517, Engelhard, NC  27824 (include an email address for correspondence) or online at http://www.ncgenweb.us/hyde/HYDE.HTM.
