Mr. John “Jack” Edmond Kavanah, age 93, a resident of Chocowinity, and a former longtime resident of Westport, CT died Friday, November 13, 2015 at his home.

A funeral mass will be held Thursday, November 19th at 3:00pm at Mother of Mercy Catholic Church of Washington, officiated by Father Gaston Nsongolo. Burial will follow at a later date at Oaklawn Cemetery, Fairfield, CT. The family will receive friends for a celebration of Jack’s life following the service at the Bay Club of Cypress Landing.

Jack was born in Yonkers, NY on November 15, 1921, son of the late William C. Kavanah and the late Catherine Shine Kavanah and graduated from Gorton High School, Yonkers NY.  He served his country in the U.S. Marines during World War II.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree on the GI Bill from Yale University. On October 28, 1950 he married the love of his life, the former Mary Elaine Wise. Jack was a retired financial manager with Union Carbide-Dow both domestic and international. Following his retirement he and Mary Elaine moved to Cypress Landing in Chocowinity where he pursued his love of sports, particularly golf. Love of wife, children and grandchildren brought joy and fulfillment to his life. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

Surviving along with his wife Mary Elaine of the home are sons: David Kavanah (Sharon) of Annapolis, MD and Peter Kavanah (Elizabeth) of Farmington, CT; daughter: Jane Schwocho (Lee) of Watchung, NJ and four grandchildren: Matthew, Meghan, Andrew and Kathrine Kavanah. Jack was predeceased by his daughter Judith Kavanah.
