HIGH POINT — Former Northside superstar Edrice “Bam” Adebayo went on ESPN radio’s “Mike & Mike” show this morning to announce his commitment to play basketball at the University of Kentucky next year.
Adebayo, who transferred from Northside to High Point Christian Academy for his senior year, was torn between Kentucky and N.C. State. The Wolfpack offered the prospect of playing with AAU teammate and friend Dennis Smith Jr.
The prospect of declaring for the draft after his freshman year of college also likely played a part in his decision to go to Kentucky. Scouting website DraftExpress has Adebayo projected to go 10th overall in the 2017 NBA draft.
“They’re a winning program,” Adebayo said on ESPN radio this morning. “It’s just a great all-around environment. I like the staff and I like coach (John) Calipari.”
Adebayo, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 2 power forward, had an astounding junior year with the Panthers. He averaged just over 32 points a game, in addition to 21 rebounds and 4.5 blocks.
