NANCY BOWEN

NANCY BOWEN

Nancy Tice Bowen, beloved wife of Billy Bowen, departed this life on Saturday, November 21, 2015.

She was born on October 3, 1940 in the Farm Life Community of Martin County to the late Erma Woolard Tice and Elbert Tice. She attended school in Farm Life until the merger of the Farm Life and Williamston School Systems. She graduated from High School in 1958. She and Billy were married in 1958. Shortly after marriage Nancy and Billy moved to Plymouth where she resided until her death.

She was employed for 30 years as school secretary at Washington Street and Pines Elementary Schools.

During her tenure as school secretary she was a second mother to the students. She administered first aid to their playground wounds and did whatever was required to enhance their school day. She is still remembered for her beautiful smile and loving ways.

She enjoyed bowling, playing bridge and doing church and community work. She enjoyed participating in the local Community Lunch Box until health issues forced her to play a lesser role. The ATeam at the lunch box was like family to her. They visited her at home many times and sent cards of encouragement to help brighten her days.

Her most precious moments were the times she spent with her family. The children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought sunshine into her life on the cloudiest of days. She always made sure the needs of her family were satisfied before she attempted to fill her needs. All of her family will forever endure the moments they were blessed to be with Mother, Grandma and Great-Grandma. She set the example of how one’s life on this earth should be lived.

In addition to her husband of 57 years, Nancy is survived by her sons, Michael R. Bowen and wife Catherine, Douglas K. Bowen and James R. Bowen and wife Jennifer, all of Plymouth, N.C.; sister, Ann T. Bowen of Williamston, N.C.; cherishing her memories are her five grandchildren, Jessica and husband Allen, Billie Jo, Jacob and wife Tamika, Leah and Emma. In addition to her grandchildren Nancy cherished her great-grandchildren, Jay Jay, Jailey, Tre, Adelyn and Maddox.

The family would like to thank the employees of 1 East at Vidant Medical Center, Drs. Walker, Cherukuri, Stroud and staff at the Leo Jenkins Cancer Center for the love and compassion shown toward Nancy. She was always treated with the utmost respect and a display of love by everyone who examined or treated her.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Lunch Box, 106 Madison Street, Plymouth, N.C. 27962 or the American Cancer Society, 930A Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C. 27834.

Memorial service will be held Monday, November 30, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth, with Reverend Candace Worth officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
