MATTIE Arts is pleased to bring you our annual Christmas Concert on Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. Returning for the main event is concert pianist David Roach on the baby grand. We are delighted to also have special youth performances by 8-year-old Keegan Torres on the violin, Bianca Torres, 13, on piano, and a cappella vocalist Bridgett Nesfield, 17, all of Hyde County. In addition, 21st Century Community Learning Center students from Mattamuskeet Elementary School will deliver their own rendition of the “12 Days of Christmas.” We hope you will mark the date and join us. The concert will be held at the Swan Quarter Baptist Church, 336 Main St., Swan Quarter. Admission is free for kids, $5 for teens and $10 for adults. For more information, call 252-943-8991.
MATTIE Arts is now accepting early enrollment for the 2016 winter and spring lineup of classes and workshops we will be offering at the arts center. Details will be forthcoming via email, Facebook.com/Mattieartscenter, and on our website at www.hyde1854courthouse.org. Clay: Stoneware baskets-Jan. 23, Instructor- Carolyn Sleeper of Slatestone Studio, Washington.
Clay: Bird Houses-Feb. 13, Instructor- Carolyn Sleeper of Slatestone Studio, Washington.
Decoy Carving Workshop– January, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Ten-part workshop. Instructor- Gregory Berry, Engelhard. Maximum of six people.
Drawing- Tuesdays in February. 6-8 p.m. Instructor- Kaye Lee Brady from Utah and currently of Belhaven.
Gourd Art Workshop– Saturdays in March (March 5, 12, 19 and 26). Instructors- Sondra Michael Gibbs and Mary Jean Gibbs, Hyde County. Maximum of six people.
Stained Glass Workshop– May 7 and 14. Instructor- Jeannie Dozier, Rocky Mount. Maximum of six people.
Crocheting– Date TBA. Instructor- Pamela Cahoon, Hyde County.
Plein Air Painting– Ongoing on the third Saturdays each month. Instructor- Mark Hierholzer.
