Elmer M. Leggett, 87, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, November 29, 2015. The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 7:30pm at the 1st Pentecostal Holiness Church of Williamston. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 6 to 7:30pm. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 11am in Homestead Memorial Gardens in Greenville.
Elmer, a native of Beaufort County, married Letha Gardner and they spent the early years of their marriage singing in church together and taught their children to use their talents for the Lord. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar for the Lord, playing in the early 1980s with the Canaanland Express and Betty & the Sonrise Singers. He was a member of the 1st Pentecostal Holiness Church of Williamston and retired from the state where he worked in the Maintenance Department.
His greatest passion in life was helping and giving to others. He was devoted to his wife and dedicated to his family. His hobbies included gardening, beekeeping, hunting, fishing and his love for his little dog, Judy.
He is preceded in death by his sisters, Letha Nicholson, Reba Woolard, Janie Day and Glenda Woolard; and a brother, Darrell Leggett.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Letha Leggett; children, Phillip Leggett and wife Susan of Washington, Kenneth Leggett and wife Nancy of Williamston, and Joan Williams and husband Van of Greenville; grandchildren, Kimberly Leggett Bedwell, Sherry Leggett Everett, Tricia Williams Overton and Jonathan Van Williams; and great-grandchildren, Caroline Overton, Alex Williams, and Jacob and Braeden Everett.
