ALL ABOARD: Pictured is a scene from Belhaven’s Toy Train Exhibit in 2013. The exhibit has gained acclaim in the past several years and has become a prime destination during the holiday season for county residents and some from outlying areas.

In the midst of the busiest month of the year — all the hustle and bustle, the endless scrambling to find that perfect gift for a loved one, company Christmas parties and other obligations related to the season — residents should take the time to stop and “smell the Christmas tree,” so to speak. Many well-planned, special events have been scheduled across Beaufort County, presenting plenty of opportunities to spend quality time with one’s family and make holiday memories.

As many know, every municipality in the county, with the exception of Pantego and Washington Park, will host a Christmas parade. Chocowinity has already hosted its parade this year.

In addition to parades, where Santa often makes an appearance and local organizations represented, there will be a lineup of activities going on in Bath, Belhaven, Chocowinity and Washington.

Whether it’s a visit to Belhaven’s Toy Train Exhibit, a tradition that has gained a buzz over the past several years, or a family excursion to Raised in a Barn Farm’s Christmas festivities, there are many activities that will be appropriate and fun for all ages.

This Christmas, and any other, it is important to stay focused on the important things: one’s health, family and other blessings, to name a few. Material gifts eventually lose their spark and are, in many situations, tossed eventually. However, memories made with loved ones or a significant other, quality family time that will resonate and be remembered for years and years to come, are, in essence, priceless.

The Washington Daily News will highlight Beaufort County’s Christmas cheer this year in the “Beaufort County Christmas” special section. Look for it in the Dec. 20 issue of the Daily News.
