An insurance agency kicked off a benefit for Eagle’s Wings food pantry Wednesday, and plans to continue supporting the nonprofit throughout the month.
Allstate: Ryan Whitford hosted its “Rally Day” to raise money for the food pantry, kicking off a partnership that lets the Washington agency give back to the community, said agency owner Ryan Whitford.
For every person who gets an insurance quote, the agency will donate $10 to Eagle’s Wings to help provide food for needy families. The initiative will continue through the end of the month, according to Melissa Whitford, vice president of agency services.
“We have, for quite some time, wanted to be more involved in the community,” Ryan Whitford said. “Giving back is a really important part that we as insurance agents offer. We wanted to do more of that. Working with Eagle’s Wings and Ann Marie Montague, who took the time to give us a tour, and how they help Beaufort County’s less fortunate has been an eye opening experience, as well as an opportunity for us to give back and help out for the folks that help support our business. We decided to take Eagle’s Wings under our wing, so to speak, as our regular give-back opportunity.”
The agency decided to start giving back after joining Agents of Change, a marketing group that helped it find more ways to give back to organizations and people in the area.
Every 60 days, the agency will be identifying a child, family or group that could use a hand. The Community Cause program brings awareness to individual causes and tries to meet a goal, whether it’s monetary or for the purchase of something that can impact the recipient’s life.
The agency also attended a breakfast hosted by Eagle’s Wings that brought business leaders together for a potential partnership with the food pantry, according to Eagle’s Wings director Ann Marie Montague.
Whitford’s agency has set a goal of donating $500 to the food pantry by the end of the year, he said.
“Hunger in Beaufort County is a county problem, a community problem,” Montague said. “As a community, we need to come together to fix it so that’s why we were reaching out because we’re all in this together. We were just thrilled they took the initiative to do this project.”
Allstate has held similar initiatives this year, including a donation to ExCEL, an organization that provides opportunities for special needs kids to get together and play sports in a safe environment, as well as a $668 donation to help a local family purchase a handicapped-accessible van to accommodate their special needs child, according to Melissa Whitford.
