CHOCOWINITY MIDDLE SCHOOL CITIZENSHIP: Each month all Beaufort County schools are invited to participate in the district’s outstanding character education program where schools nominate students for the particular character trait of the month. Three of those students are chosen by the central office to be honored at the upcoming board meeting for their accomplishments. Traits for which students are recognized throughout the year include: responsibility/respect, courage, citizenship, gratitude, self-discipline, kindness, honesty, good judgment and perseverance. Chocowinity Middle School, however, goes above and beyond the norm in celebrating students who have demonstrated strong character. Each month at CMS teachers nominate students for whom they have observed behavior that exemplifies the character trait of the month. Students are often asked to assist in this decision-making process by choosing a fellow classmate they feel is a good candidate for nomination. All nominated students and their parents are invited to a full breakfast each month provided by the school cafeteria and paid for by the school. At each breakfast, nominations are read aloud by school administration, students are rewarded with a gift bag, and a group picture is taken. Each picture is then posted on a main wall in the school honoring students nominated throughout the school year. CMS hopes this program will continue to foster good character, as these qualities are extremely important for student success. The following students were nominated from CMS for this month’s character trait of citizenship: Tristen Akey, Tyshana Purdue, Caleb Dixon, Hunter Rowe, Michelle Carabali Salinas, Charlie Daniels, Victor Gonzalez, Courtney Boyd, Hailey Taylor, Jaylen Armstrong, Allie Dickinson, Brianna Nunez Flores, Corey Matthews, Daniesha Whitley and Jacob Griffin. A special congratulations goes to Tristen Akey, who was one of three students from Beaufort County Schools to be honored this month at the central office for showing exemplary citizenship.
