The Davises are coming to town.

East Carolina Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram auto dealership in Greenville, owned by Dave Davis and run by his son Chip, is expanding its business and opening another location along U.S. Highway 264 in Washington on Dec. 21.

The location for Washington Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram has been under construction for several months, but is now nearing completion, with crews focusing on landscaping.

Chip Davis, who will now be running both of the locations for his father, said the Chrysler brand decided there needed to be another location in Washington, and he is excited to be expanding the business there.

“I plan on being back and forth,” he said. “We have a lot of customers that are already over there.”

For the Davis family, the auto industry runs deep. According to Dave Davis, he started out in the business decades ago, as early as 1970 in Raleigh. He has owned the dealership in Greenville since 1981.

“You know, (I) just kind of enjoyed the business and stayed in it ever since,” he said. “It’s been a good field.”

To Davis’ delight, that enjoyment spilled over onto his son Chip, who has been involved at the Greenville location since graduating from college about 15 years ago.

“It was in the family business, but also just dealing with people, interacting with people on a daily basis,” Chip Davis said of his attraction to the auto industry.

He said he has lived in the Greenville area for most of his life, and his family also has connections in Washington, as well.

Dave Davis said they have already met with local officials, including Washington Mayor Mac Hodges, Beaufort County Economic Development Director Martyn Johnson and several City Council members, all of who have been welcoming to the Davises. The business may also partner with Beaufort County Community College for training courses.

“We’re excited about it,” Dave Davis said. “I think it’ll do well.”

Chip Davis said the location will have full service, including warranty repairs and trained technicians. He expects the business will also hire about 30 people or more in Beaufort County.

“Really we just have another brand to offer,” he said. “Mainly it’s just offering another selection, not another selection, another manufacturer.”

And more importantly, the father and son duo both agree that the main goal is to offer their services to the Beaufort County area.

“I think that’s the main thing, just becoming part of the community,” Dave Davis said. “I think it’s just having a presence over there, and for service and things like that.”

“We’re ready to go over there to help them,” Chip Davis said. “We invite everybody to come by and see us.”
