Ruth Marie Scoble
Feb. 24, 1928 – Dec. 7, 2015
Ruth Marie Scoble was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 24, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Robert Roy Crossett and Lulu Victoria Simpson Crossett.
Just prior to 1950, she relocated to South Florida to start her family. While residing in Ft. Lauderdale, she was active at Faith Lutheran Church. The leader (go-to person) of the youth group, the Walther League, Music Director of both youth and teenage choirs, as well as a classroom teacher, she eventually accepted the position of Principal, an unusual opportunity for a woman during the 60s.
Ruth served as an educator in Broward County Public Schools for 31 years. Fully aware of changing times, she taught Computer Science to fellow Elementary School classroom teachers at Driftwood Elementary. As a Media Specialist (aka Librarian) she was able to share her love of books, story telling and literature. South Florida was her home for 57 years.
Since moving to Washington in 2005, she greatly enjoyed the companionship and laughter shared with her beloved YaYa’s.
Ruth planned travel adventures for friends and family. She so loved doing so. The journey was as important as the planning. She would also say that she was an active musician throughout her entire life.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Ruth Scoble and Laura Marie Scoble, both of Washington, and 3 grandchildren, Jensen C. Burbules of Washington, Elizabeth Marie Scoble of Hollywood, FL and Eric Scoble of Islamorada, FL.
Her son, Richard Clair Scoble Jr. of the FL Keys and her sister, Julia Krawczyk of Gregory, Michigan, preceded her in death.
Following her request, A Celebration of her Life will be held at 4 pm, Saturday, December 19th at Jack’s Tavern, 712 River Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BCCC Foundation in her name. A fund has been arranged, a scholarship to assist an adult student within the College of Education.
Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy 264 E, Washington, has been given the honor of being entrusted with serving the Scoble family.
