Mrs. Lillian Estelle Pringle, 89, of 308 Cross Road, Roper, died December 13, 2015 at home.
Funeral services will be at 1:00PM Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Shiloh Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) with Bishop Daniel Gilliam, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Pringle was born August 4, 1926 in Washington County. She was the daughter of the late Henderson Norman and Mary Icelene Burnett Norman. She attended Washington County Public Schools and graduated from Plymouth Colored High School in 1947. She received her B.S. in Education from the Elizabeth City State Teacher’s College (now Elizabeth City State University).
Mrs. Pringle’s career as an educator began as an elementary school teacher in Dames Quarter, Salisbury, MD. She also taught in Washington County and in Richmond, VA. She would retire from Richmond Public School System where she taught at Fairmount Elementary School and Clark Springs Elementary School.
While in Richmond she was a member of New Friendship Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) where she was a choir member, Sunday School Teacher, Missionary and Superintendent of Vacation Bible School. She was a founding member of the Board of Directors for Windows of the World in Roper and a member of the NAACP.
She is survived by her husband- H. Leon Pringle, Ph. D- Elizabeth City, NC, son- Brett Pringle- Richmond, VA, three sisters- Mary Norman- Roper, NC, Martha Watson and Ruth Ferguson- both of Philadelphia, PA.
The family will be receiving friends from 6:00PM to 7:00PM Friday at Toodle’s Chapel and other times at the home.
