BCCC to offer class, test review in food safety for restaurants

The Division of Continuing Education at Beaufort County Community College will offer both a complete class and a separate test review on ServSafe food safety and consumer health this winter.

The class will meet 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Jan. 12 and ending Jan. 21, in room 826 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. The registration fee is $70. A test and review session for those interested in updating their credential will be offered at 6-9 p.m., Feb. 16 in room 826 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. The registration fee is $20. A textbook and exam materials — available from the BCCC Bookstore and the National Restaurant Association — are required for either the complete class or test review session and are available for an estimated $67.50. They must be purchased in advance.

Food safety and consumer health are among the most pressing concerns for the food service industry. The course is offered through ServSafe, the industry’s pre-eminent food-safety training program that is recognized and accepted by more federal, state and local jurisdictions than any other. A ServSafe certification will ensure restaurant owners that two points will be available on their sanitation inspections.

For more information about the course and information about ordering the required materials, interested persons should contact Lou Stout, director of Workforce Initiatives, at 252-940-6307 or by email at lou.stout@beaufortccc.edu.
